Note Duration

A notes duration is simply how long it lasts. Starting with example 2, once mastered, use the G Major scale you learned on page and play each pattern through one time on each note. This an excellent way to develop picking technique and awareness of the major scale.

  •  We'll start with quarter notes. A quarter note is worth one beat. There are four of them in this example. Play each with a down stroke. Counting as you play and tapping your foot on the beat.

Slowly at first   then faster once you master

  • Now let's divide beat three into two eight notes. Eight notes are worth one half a beat. Play the "and" of 3 with an upstroke.

Slowly at first then faster once you master

  • This one divides beats 2 and 4 into eight notes.

Slowly at first then faster once you master

  • And the last one divides beats 3 and 4.

Slowly at first then faster once you master
